Gathering together to worship God and Jesus Christ is central to life at St. James.  Worship at St. James is a spiritual experience providing opportunities to learn and to serve.  Whether you choose to attend the traditional service or the more contemporary service now offered, we think that you will find in St. James the variety and the inspiration that you are seeking in your life.  Our membership is increasing and so is the ethnic make up of our church.  We rejoice in the diversity and we invite you to experience it here at St. James.

There are various opportunities for worship at St. James each weekend.  Two of these services are traditional.

NOTE:

• If you are away on some weekends, consider worshipping with us on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Room. 

• A sound system is available for persons who have a hearing impairment.  

• A ramp for those with walking difficulties is available on the Pratt Street side of the church.

• A Nursery for preschoolers is provided during the 9:30 and 11:00 am services

• Social and culinary refreshment is offered every Sunday morning between services in the cloakroom area.  Stay after the 8:05 or 9:15 services or come early before the 11:00 a.m. service.  It's a great way to fellowship with old friends or to make new ones. Saint James...Where Everybody is Somebody and Jesus is Lord!

›› Traditional Services

St. James offers weekly worship services in a traditional format.  These services follow one of the settings in the traditional Lutheran Book of Worship.  Most times they are accompanied by organ but on occasion may be accompanied by the piano and other instruments.  We offer favorite traditional hymns but we also try to vary the musical content.  From time to time more contemporary pieces are interpreted by our Chancel choir, our Handbell Choir and Children's Choirs. 

 

Our readings are taken from the Scriptures and on special occasions we have Interpretive readings or liturgical dance (where the word of the Gospel is interpreted through drama). 

Traditional services are offered every Sunday at 8:05 a.m. and at 11:00 a.m.  

›› Contemporary Services

St. James offers worship services in a contemporary setting.  These services feature music by the  Seraphim band.  While the songs are of a more popular vein, every effort is made to pick songs that will appeal to young and old and will be easy to learn and sing along.  We also use the Digital Hymnal on occasion to supplement our services.

The format for the Contemporary service is more free form.  A kind of testimonial type service that appeals to many younger and older folks who are in search of Jesus but are not completely comfortable with the traditional way of worship.  

This service allows them the opportunity to speak to the Lord on their own terms and to reach out and embrace Christianity.  We have been offering this service for a number of years now and have found it to be most successful.  We are happy to be able to offer this type of service and to be able to minister to ALL God's people in any way that we can.

Contemporary Services are offered every Sunday from 9:20 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.  

›› Contemporary Band

Our Seraphim Band plays the music that is heard and loved so much today.  Congregation participation has been excellent.  Many of the musical pieces played have been heard extensively.  Other pieces are newer but no less effective. Since the format for the Contemporary service is more free form it is easy to incorporate the new songs as part of the service.
