Saint James Sunday church school program began September 9 with 41 children, adults, and helpers. Sessions continue each Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30. We meet promptly at 9:30 in the Seitter-Petersen room. A brief worship with prayer and offering is part of each session.

Traditional Sunday schools had teachers who taught the same group each week for a whole year. Children sat at tables with workbooks or listened to a lecture. There was continuity of lessons from week to week, and the same children came each week.

Times have changed. Most people can’t commit to teaching every week for nine months. Children want to move around and do a variety of things.  Children are not always present every Sunday. It is difficult to tie lessons together from Sunday to Sunday. We need to adapt to societal changes.

We are reworking our Sunday children’s program. Notice we are even trying to find a different name so it doesn’t have the connotation of "school".   Each Sunday has a different theme with a variety of people leading the sessions. Using a variety of leaders means no one person has to commit to teaching every week. Such a method requires participation from more people and a great amount of time in coordinating each Sunday.

Please indicate your interest in the Christian education of the children of St. James by contacting Eleanor Hoffman, to volunteer.

For our first school fundraiser of the year, we tried something new. On October 10th a truck delivered hundreds of bright orange pumpkins to our door. We hosted our very own Pumpkin Patch with great success.

This year, no one had to drive to the suburbs for their pumpkins. We had them right here for sale. Everyone involed in the sales of the pumpkins had a great time.

Your support of the fundraiser was greatly appreciated!
