›› A Note from the Web Steward

Greetings!  It is my sincere hope that you enjoy navigating through this web site as much as I have enjoyed putting it together.  It has given me much pleasure to prepare this site and I have learned and continue to learn much from editing and maintaining it.  Please feel free to include suggestions on what you would like to see on this site.  Remember, this site has been put together with you in mind.  We want to let you know what is happening at St. James and at the same time hear from you about new and exciting events.

God Bless you and keep you in HIS care!

Yours in Christ,

Marilyn

›› About the Web Steward:

Hello!  My name is Marilyn R-Loudenslager.  I have been a member of St. James for over twenty years.  It doesn't seem that long ago that I came from Puerto Rico to settle in Philadelphia.  I was a Catholic then but somewhere along the way the Catholic church and I parted ways.  I found myself on the steps of the Lutheran church in search of spiritual guidance and hope.  I found it in Pastor Paul and in all the wonderful folks that make up St. James.  From the moment I joined St. James, everyone was friendly and warm and I felt that I had finally come home.

During the time that I have been a member of St. James, I have volunteered my services in various capacities.  I have been involved as Lay Reader Coordinator, Lay Reader, Chancel Choir member, Assistant editor for the messenger, 'Devotion in Motion' member.  I have also been an active participant in some of the youth activities including Hunger Marathons, the Christmas Plays, Youth Retreats to the Poconos to name a few.

My husband Carl & I were married by Pastor Paul at St. James on April 27th, 1991.  This was shortly after Carl joined St. James.  Carl is also very involved with St. James as an usher, and a  liturgist among other things.  We continue to be active and worship together at St. James.  Carl and I live in the Somerton section of Northeast Philadelphia.

This website came about because we [St. James] felt that it was time that we have a presence in the world wide web to be able to reach all the church members who are now 'connected' to the web and to be able to reach some that were in a spiritual quest like I was.  What better way to stay 'connected' than to have a site of our own.

With that in mind, I volunteered to put the web site together, not only to give of my services to the church but to get more exposure to working with web pages.  I offered my services as apprentice web master to Pastor Paul and he readily agreed.  I wasted no time in planning the web site.  It took a lot of work, dedication and countless hours of research and planning but it was well worth the effort.  When I was ready to publish the site, I found a group called Techno Lutherans (now known as TechnoStars), http://www.luther95.org/ who were supplying free web space for Lutheran churches.  I was able to secure space with Techno Lutherans and this is the result.  I continue to maintain this site and I try to update it as much as possible so that the information remains fresh and relevant to everyone who visits.

For Saint James, this is an exciting time.   The Contemporary service format has brought many new worshipers to St. James.  As usual, the Traditional Church Service is always there for all to enjoy.  I am also happy to report that in the last few years, the make-up of our church has become much more diversified.  We have seen a growth in the number of Hispanics/Latinos as well as Asians and African Americans attending St. James and we praise the Lord for blessing us with such diversity.  St. James is truly becoming a multicultural church and we all look forward to the wealth of ideas and experiences that each group brings with it.

As for me, when I am not singing with the choir, I am either updating the web page, reading a good book, or indulging in the manual arts.  I enjoy getting involved in numerous activities.  I especially enjoy the manual arts (crocheting, needlework, plastic canvas, sewing and woodwork/plaster).  I also enjoy reading, writing, roller skating and working with computers.  Up until recently, I was a Programmer Analyst at a Mortgage Insurance company in town.

I hope you enjoy visiting with us and if you have comments or suggestions on how we can serve you better, click on the link below and leave me a message.  I will get back to you within a day or two.  In the meantime, thanks for stopping by.

Yours in Christ,

Marilyn
