Church office hours are: Weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pastor Paul can be contacted during this schedule Monday through Thursday. If you have a message or concern, please call within office hours at the church office number above. *CLASSES BEGIN FOR OUR PRESCHOOL THIS WEEK! ~ Over 30 children are registered. There’s still room in most age groups. We welcome Eva Parisi as new 4’s teacher as Trish Winkler has accepted a position in another school.
*A BAPTISM CLASS will be held September 14th at 7pm in the church office. If you plan to schedule a Baptism you are encouraged to attend.
*MEMORIALS are being received toward a new glass Courtyard door. It would replace the wooden door on the Castor side of our building, and be similar to the one by the cloakroom. See Pastor Paul if you are interested.
*AT SERVICES this Saturday, September 11, we will pause to remember and pray for our nation as we mark the 9th anniversary of 911. The service, held at 10am in the church, will include special music.
*HOPE4PHILLY September 25 …a city wide Christian mission outreach is looking for volunteers to help in a wide variety of areas from set up and break down to food prep, food service, welcome center, or other areas for this event. For additional information, see Elvin Colon, Cathy George or Larry Thum. A volunteer sign-up sheet can be found at the back of church.
Saint James Food Cupboard non perishable food items such as canned, dry foods and bottled/canne4d beverages are needed in order to re-stock our food cupboard. Donations may be dropped off in the cloakroom area.
Join us every Sunday at the Gathering Place. Refreshments are offered each Sunday between services in the Cloakroom and Courtyard areas. It's a great way to fellowship with friends and to meet new ones.
*A POTLUCK SUPPER, preceded by wine and cheese, will be held this Friday, September 10, at 6:15pm. Rev. Jaynan Clark, President of WordAlone, will be our guest speaker. Visiting us from Spokane, Washington, she will speak to “The New Lutheran Landscape” and take our questions. Join us in fellowship and food.
*ORIGINAL CHAMPIONS PIZZA ~ 5321 Oxford Avenue, is sponsoring ‘A Cure for Cancer-Friends & Family Fundraiser’ on Sunday, September 12, from 10am-10pm. All proceeds will be donated to Cancer Research Foundation in honor of ‘Angie’. Included will be a live ‘DJ’, dunk tank, moon bounce for the kiddies, face painting, cotton candy and much more!
*IMPORTANT MEETING ~ Church Council has scheduled a special congregational meeting for September 12 at 10:15 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Its purpose will be to determine whether to disaffiliate from the national church we belong to, the ELCA, and join with other evangelical Lutherans who more closely share our core values of orthodox Christianity. DUE TO eligibility requirements for the upcoming congregational meeting, September 12th, please check the active member lists in the entry to make sure you are listed. Also, please sign a communion card and/or make a contribution of record by September 5th.
*THE SEPTEMBER MESSENGER is being prepared. If you have any copy, today, September 5th is our deadline.
*THE SPANISH SERVICE task force has a fundraising effort underway. The Samaritan card is a shopping discount card good at over 117,000 retailers across the USA. The card is a $20.00 donation. It is good for one year and discounts you can receive exceed the donation fee. Please see Elvin Colon before or after services to purchase a card.
*A FLEA MARKET, sponsored by Saint James 'Women Of Faith' Saturday, October 2nd, 8am – 1pm, Side lawn Space (with your own table) $10.00; Space (with the rental of our table) $15.00; Proceeds will benefit ‘Youth Creation 2011’. Call 215-888-6740 to reserve your space!

Crochet Project
June 29 thru September 30
Our goal is to crochet 100 scarves, 100 hats, and 100 pairs of gloves. These will be distributed on Christmas Eve along with a Bible, a tract, and some other small items to the homeless at Love Park in Center City. If you would like to participate by crocheting or donating yarn, Please contact Williena Owes at 215-288-5326. Please consider being part of this ministry to those in need.
